The Edo State Ministry of Justice oversees all legal matters involving the State. We are committed to protecting the rights of citizens, providing legal representation, and promoting justice throughout Edo State. Our services include the prosecution of criminal cases, civil litigation, and legal advice to the government, its ministries, departments, and agencies. We work closely with the executive branch to draft legislation for the State House of Assembly. The Ministry is also responsible for organizing the justice delivery system. Our ultimate goal is to uphold the principles and responsibilities outlined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, Esq., FICMC, MCArb, is the Commissioner for Justice & Attorney General of Edo State, a seasoned legal practitioner, and an expert in alternative dispute resolution. With a law degree from the University of Wales and a Master of Law from the University of Benin, he built a distinguished career with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before returning to private practice. Mr. Osaze-Uzzi is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) and has served in various capacities within the Nigerian Bar Association. As Attorney General, he champions the rule of law and works to ensure a just and equitable society within Edo State.
The Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice is the Chief Legal Officer of the state and the head of the official bar and oversees the following departments with the assistance of the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary.
